Creating a safe and luxury experience for Dubai patients
Rada water controls help a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Dubai deliver the highest standards of patient care and experience.
King's College Hospital has been at the forefront of delivering exceptional healthcare for over 175 years. As well as being one of London's largest teaching hospitals, the NHS Trust's specialist services are internationally recognised.
This legacy now extends to the United Arab Emirates, where King's College has built a 100-bed private hospital in Dubai. The state-of-the-art facility is one of the region's most premium hospitals.
The King's College team was tasked with creating a facility where patients could access the same level of exceptional care offered in London, with all the luxury of a five-star hotel.
For the facility's water system, the King's College team needed products that could deliver all this, while helping staff meet the unique sustainability challenges faced by a healthcare space in Dubai.
Achieving the highest standards of care
Kevin Duffy, chief development officer at King's College Hospital Dubai, said: "Ultimately, our task was to create a facility that enabled staff to provide the highest standards of patient care.
"Because King's College is a British healthcare provider, complying with NHS guidelines as well as Dubai standards is a must.
"Rada's products do, and its European credentials ensure we're meeting the very highest safety standards," Kevin said. "This means King's College's exceptional level of care can be consistently met across the globe."
In healthcare settings, water controls must protect patients from infection-causing pathogens while guarding them from scalding risks. Rada's taps and showers are built to resist bacterial build up and minimise cross contamination, while its thermostatic mixing valves always deliver water at a safe temperature.
Kevin commented: "We were particularly impressed with the Rada Acu tap's digital functionality. It provides greater levels of control over infection control practices such as smart duty flushing and temperature control."
Overcoming unique challenges
"When choosing water controls, we were faced with some challenges that are unique to the Middle East," Kevin explained.
"Fresh water sources aren't freely available in Dubai, so supplies are created by filtering seawater at desalination plants. This makes water a more expensive resource than in the UK, for example, so responsible usage is vital because it has more impact on running costs."
Rada's digital products can be set to precisely manage flow times and automatically capture performance data. The data provides valuable intelligence about usage, which can inform adjustments to vital safety measures like duty flushing.
"Having a system that helps manage water consumption while prioritising safety is a huge benefit here," said Kevin.
Delivering a luxury experience
Products that support stringent infection control and safety measures are the priority for any healthcare facility. But at this hospital, they also needed to look the part.
Kevin explained: "Comfortable spaces that offer a luxury experience can help improve wellbeing, and in healthcare this approach can help patients recover.
"But finding taps and showers that meet healthcare guidelines and look great is tough. As well as all the benefits that Rada's digital technology unlocks, its product range boasts high-quality design and looks stylish.
"Because of Rada, even the hospital's washrooms contribute to the premium, five-star space we've created."
