Showers and wash rooms in one of the UK's leading 5-a-side indoor soccer centres have been equipped with Rada Sense electronic water control systems specified to control the showers and water supplies to all of the wash hand basins.
The North Wirral Soccer Dome in Seacombe, Wirral is the brainchild of Merseyside property entrepreneur Frank Brennan. A self confessed 'soccer nut', Mr Brennan identified a real need for an indoor football facility in the Wirral and his foresight in converting an industrial unit into a FIFA standard state-of-the-art soccer dome facility with three pitches has been widely welcomed since it opened in August 2005.
In developing the dome Mr Brennan was determined the equip the facility with the very latest equipment and technologies and this extends from the specification of the Rada Sense units in the washrooms to the newest polyethylene Astroturf development used on the pitch surfaces.
In total there are 33 Rada Sense controlled showers in players and staff changing rooms. In addition 13 wash hand basins are also controlled by Rada Sense. As well as producing an aesthetically pleasing look to the washrooms, the Rada Sense also provides a range of advantages to the building's facility management team.

Describing the controllers as looking 'slightly space age' Mr Brennan feels the no touch water activation and temperature control will bring benefits to the dome.

Entirely UK designed and fully TMV3 compliant, Rada Sense offers a unique combination of safety, hygiene and absolute thermal control and features an inbuilt thermal disinfection cycle to ensure that risks of infection and contamination from water borne bacteria are minimised. There is also an automatic duty flush function, the frequency of which can be increased or reduced to suit individual site requirements.
These features are particularly relevant in the dome where, in order to maintain best practice in the water supply system, regular flushing of the taps and showers to deter potential legionella and bacteria problems developing within the hot water system dead legs must be undertaken. This can be both time consuming and labour intensive if undertaken manually.
The disinfection cycle, where water at 60°C is flushed through the system in a safe environment, is activated electronically via the control panel using a hand held pda computer.
With Rada Sense the user can alter the water temperature as well as the timed flow. In order to prevent scalding, in the North Wirral Soccer Dome there is a pre-programmed safe upper limit on the water delivery temperature. Every wash hand basin has also been programmed to deliver water flow for a limited period, resulting in a major cost saving opportunity in such a well used installation.
